CRYPTOSPORA SILENTIS — OFFICIAL TEST REPORT Test ID: CS-REAL-008 (v1.5 — Watch, Signal, Fold, Return) Species: Cryptospora silentis (The Hidden Spore) Creator: Wagg · Owner: Family Tree Trust Date: 2026-09-27 System: Diamond Server (Python 3, real engine) Document Type: Full Technical Record PURPOSE OF TEST CS-REAL-007 failed because the test killed the process too early. That was a test-design problem, not a species problem. The v1.5 engine added watch behavior: the species sits quietly while the machine is healthy, listens for shutdown signals, and folds when danger arrives. This test runs the species as a real process, sends a real SIGTERM, and confirms the core survives. ACTUAL RESULTS | Step | Result | | Source files | 56 | | Fragments before signal | 3 (already folded before danger) | | SIGTERM sent | Yes | | Process exited in time | No — had to SIGKILL | | Fragments after signal | 3 | | Fresh spore started | Yes | | Files restored | 0 | | Hash matches | 0 of 56 | Result: FAILED. WHAT WENT WRONG — THREE BUGS FOUND BUG 1 — THE SPECIES FOLDED THE MOMENT IT STARTED. The autosave timer began at zero. The first time the watch loop checked, the condition "30 seconds since last autosave" was already true. The species folded before it had any reason to. Fragments existed on disk before the SIGTERM was sent. BUG 2 — THE SIGNAL HANDLER REDID ALL THE WORK. When SIGTERM arrived, the handler called fold() from scratch — reading every file, encrypting, writing the whole core again. On this large folder that took longer than the test's 30-second window. The test gave up and sent SIGKILL. The process was killed mid-fold. The fragments on disk were incomplete. BUG 3 — FRAGMENT SIZE REMAINED LARGE. 272 MB per fragment. Not a failure of this test specifically, but still unresolved. WHAT THIS TEST PROVES 1. The watch behavior works in principle — the process ran and stayed running until the signal arrived. 2. The signal handler fires when the signal arrives. 3. The signal handler should not redo the entire fold. It should finish what is already done and exit. 4. The autosave timer should not start at zero. NEXT STEPS - v1.6: the species looks for the buyer's files first, stores them right away, watches for new files, and finishes the current piece on signal instead of redoing everything. - Retest as CS-REAL-009.
